Diffusion When an idea or innovation spreads from one person or group to another and is adopted.
Globalization Connections around the word increase and cultures become more alike.
traditionalism longtime practices and opposing many modern technologies and ideas.
fundamentalism Describes any movement in which people believe strictly following certain established teachings.
Lingua Franca a common language consisting of Italian mixed French, Spanish, Greek, and Arabic that was formerly spoken in Mediterranean ports
ethnic religions a religion that appeals to a specific group of people in a specific area of the world
animist religions the belief that natural objects and the universe itself possess souls.
polytheism the belief in many gods
monotheism belief in only one god
pull factor attracts people to a new location
refugees People who have been forced to leave and cannot return to their homes
culture All the features of a people's way of life.
culture traits Activities and behaviors that people often take part in.
culture religion An area in which people have many shared culture traits
ethnic groups A human population that shares a common culture or ancestry.
acculutration When an individual or group adopts some of the traits of another culture.
innovation new ideas that a culture accepts.
demography Definition- The statistical study of human pupulations.
population density Definition: The average number of people living in an area.
birthrate Definition: how many people are born each year
deathrate how many people die in a year
migration the process of moving from one place to live in another.
emigrants People who leave a country to live somewhere else
immigrants People who come to a new country to live
push factor Causes people to leave a location
missionaries Someone who has been sent to a certain area by the religious organization to teach the people about that religion
mosques A building in which Muslims worship
hajj a journey to the holy city of mecca that Muslims make as a religious duty.
