| Lingua Franca | a common language consisting of Italian mixed French, Spanish, Greek, and Arabic that was formerly spoken in Mediterranean ports |
| ethnic religions | a religion that appeals to a specific group of people in a specific area of the world |
| animist religions | the belief that natural objects and the universe itself possess souls. |

| missionaries | Someone who has been sent to a certain area by the religious organization to teach the people about that religion |
| mosques | A building in which Muslims worship |
| hajj | a journey to the holy city of mecca that Muslims make as a religious duty. |
