Human geography vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
What is a culture region? An area in which people have many shared culture traits
What is assimilation? The merging of cultural traits from previously distinct cultural groups
What is dialect? A variety of a language that is distinguished from other varieties of the same language
What is a pull factor? A pull factor attracts people to a new location
What is Lingua Franca? Any language that is widely used as a means of communication among speakers of other languages.
What are ethnic religions? A religion that appeals to a specific group of people in a specific area of the world
What are ethnic groups? A human population that shares a common culture or ancestry.
What are refugees? People who have been forced to leave and cannot return to their home
What is culture? Culture is all the features of a people's way of life
What are culture traits? Activities and behaviors that people often take part in.
What are animist religions? Religions that have the belief that non-human entities are spiritual beings
What is a universalizing religion? A religion in which the followers attempt to appeal to all people
What is demography? The statistical study of human populations
What is a death rate? How many people die each year
What is population density? The average number of people living in an area
What is a birthrate How many people are born each year
What is monotheism? The belief that there is only one God.
What is a missionary? a person sent by a church to carry on religious activities
What is migration? The process of moving from one place to live in another
What is a push factor? A push factor causes people to leave a location
What are emigrants? People who leave a country to live somewhere else
What are immigrants? People who come to a new country and live
What is a mosque? a Muslim temple or place of public worship
What is a haji? a Muslim who has made a pilgrimage to Mecca
