1. Domestic Policy Refers to the social policies of the United States in areas of crime prevention, Education, energy, the environemnt, health care, and social welfare.
2. LBJ's "War On Crime" LBJ created a commission to dtucy the causes of crime and suggest solutions in or
3. Gun Control Clinton made it harder to buy automatic weapons
4. Federal sprnding on crime initiatives Clinton was able to get a law passes that allowed for more financing on police officers, building new prisons, and "boot camps" for juveniles.
5. Harsher punishments Clinton also was able to create a list that stated the crimes that were punishible by death.
6. Three strikes law If a person was convicted of their third felony then they had a certain punishment that they must serve
7. "War on Drugs" The Drug Enforcemet Administration was created and prohibits the flow of illegal narcotics into the United States and patrols its borders.
8. Brown v. Board A Supreme Court case that eliminated the segregation within schools
9. State Government's Role The state government can make stateures that state what must be meet in order to graduate and do other things while in school.
10. Elementary and Secondary Education Act (1965) Provided federal funding to public school districts with low-income populations.
11. Department of Education This federal program creates and cordinates the education policy throughout the United States.
12. School Vouchers This is a certificate issued by the Federal Governemtn in order to help apply for a private school or can reimburse a family if they home school thier children.
13. No Child Left Behind A federal program passed by Bush Sr. that requires states to administer proficiency tests in order to monigor a student's progress.
14. Renewable Resources These energy sources are able to be used over and over again unlike gasoline, coal, or propane because once these have been used you have to get more.
15. Global Warming This has been a problem in the World becuase of how car emissions have been blocking more of the sun's heat in the earth and polar ice caps have been melting over the years becuase of this.
16. Toxic Waste Disposal For many years toxic waste has been disposed of in lakes or ponds but environmentalists do not like this because of how it has been causeing deformities in the animals living there.
17. Environmental Protection Agency This was created in responce to the Clean Air Act and Water Polution Act in order to enforce these laws.
18. Environemtnal Impact Statement Reporst of likely enviromental impacts to be filed with the EPA.
19. Clean Air Act Passed by Congress in 1970 to reduce the amount of polution that was being put into the air.
20. Water Pollution Control Act Passed by Congress in 1972 in order to clean up the nations lakes and rivers.
21. Endangered Species Act A government program in order to protect species listed as endangered.
24. Medicare Provides hospitilizatoin insurance for the elderly.
25. Medicaid Provides pulic assistance in health care for the poor.
26. Veterans Administration Helps with the covering of veterans and their dependants. Provides federal benifits and patient care.
27. Food and Drug Administration Responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation’s food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation.
28. Clinton's Health Care Proposals Was and effort to deal with the two great problems of health care policy: cost and access. Main concern was guaranteeing health care coverage for all Americans. Wanted bussness to pay for the insurance of their workers and put a small tax on cigaretts.
29. Obama-care Also focused on increatsin access and containing costs. Wanted health insurance to not be able to be dropped whenever a person was sick and make sure that insuance co
30. Social Welfare Origins This began during the New Deal with the Great Depression. People wanted the goverment to help against the economic downturn and poverity.
31. Social Security Act This was the first step in the fight for Social Welfare and was passed in 1935. Created the Aid to Families with Dependent Children.
32. LBJ's Great Society This was a continuation of the Social Welfare problems and did so by creating new programs such as Medicare, school aid, and job training.
33. Aid to Families with Dependent Children This was created by the Social Security Act in 1935 and lasted to 1996 when the Temporary Assistant for Needy Families took over the program. Povided help for children with single parents who had no to little income.
34. Temporary Assistant for Needy Families Created by the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act in 1996 and officially started on July 1, 1997. Still provided children with financial assistance if they had a single parent with little to no income.
