Influences on Climate

| Gulf Stream | a warm water current in the Atlantic Ocean that brings warm water from the east coast of North America to the west coast of northern Europe |
| El Nino | an abnormal warming of surface ocean waters in the eastern Pacific ocean |
| Greenhouse Effect | the phenomenon that keeps Earth warm, gases in the Earth's atmosphere trap thermal energy |
| Latitude | the distance above or below the equator, the major factor that influences an area's climate |
| Seasons | the change in the amount of direct/indirect sunlight an area gets due to the tilt of the Earth's axis |
| Watershed | the area (land and water systems) that drain to a specific body of water |
| Climate Change | naturally occurring changes to the Earth's climate (either warming or cooling) |
| Microclimate | a smaller, distinct climate within a larger climate zone (for example a city has a warmer climate than a surrounding rural area) |
