molecule | A particle formed by the chemical bonding of two or more atoms. |
atom | The smallest unit of an element that retains the properties of that element. |
subatomic particles | A process that occurs within an atom |
electron | A particle in the space outside the nucleus of an atom that carries one unit of negative electric charge. |
neutron | A particle in the nucleus of an atom that has no electric charge |
proton | A particle in the nuclus of an atom that carries one unit of positive energy. |
physical change | A change of matter in size, shape, or state without any change in identity |
chemical change | A change of matter that occurs when atoms link together in a new way, creating a new sustance different from the original substance |
chemical reation | Another name for chemical change |
physical property | a property that can be observed, measured, or changed without changing the substance itself |
chemical property | The ability of a substance to change into a new substance with different properties. |
State of Matter | One of three forms; solid, liquid or gas. |
solid | A form of matter that has a definite shape and takes up a definite amount of space |
Liquid | A form of matter that takes up a definite amount of space and has no definite shape |
gas | A form of matter that does not take up a definite amount of space and has no definite shape. |
mass | A measure of the amount of matter in an object |
weight | The force of gravity between Earth and an object. |
gravity | A force of attraction, or pull, between any object and any objects around it. gravity is a property of all matter. |
