The muscle in your belly that pulls down to draw in air and relaxes to release it. Diaphragm
The process by which gases are exchanged between your lungs and the circulatory system. Diffusion
Plasma The fluid part of blood.
Red Blood Cells Cells that carry oxygen in the body.
White Blood Cells Cells that fight body invaders.
Valve Structures in the heart and veins that prevent the backwards flow of blood.
Platelets Pieces of cells that assist in blood clotting and produce fibrin.
Blood vessels Veins, Arteries, and Capillaries
Veins Carry blood to the heart.
Arteries Carry blood from the heart
Capillaries Vessels that allow for diffusion of materials in and out of the circulatory system.
Hemoglobin The iron-rich protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen.
Transfusion Transferring blood from one living organism to another.
o blood The universal donor because it has neither A or B proteins on the surface of the red blood cells.
AB blood The universal acceptor of blood because the body will not attack A or B proteins.
