Nervous System Medications

Adrenergic Relating to nerve fibers that release norepinephrine or epinephrine at the synapses
Aura A subject, but recognizable sensation that procedes and signals the onset of a convulsion or migraine headache
Autonomic Self-controling, functioning independently
Cholinergic Agent that produces the effect of acetylcholine
Contraindications Symptoms or circumstances that make treatment with a drug or device unsafe or inappropriate

Paranoia Condition in which patients show persistent persecutory delusions or delusional jealousy
Parasympathetic Of or pertaining to the crainosacral division of the autonomic nervous system
Peripheral Located at, or pertaining to,the periphery; occuring away from the center
Psychotropic affecting the mind, emotions or behaviors
Somatic Pertaining to the body
SSRIs Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors; drugs used to treat depression related to low amounts of the neurotransmitter serotonin
Status Epilepticus Continuous seizure activity without a pause
Succinimides Class of antiseizure drugs that delay calcium moving over the neurons
Sympathetic Division of autonomic nervous system that produces a general rather than a specific
Synapse Space between the junction of two neurons
Tension Headache Head pain that feels like pressure on the skull
