What are five legislative powers? Borrowing,Bankruptcy,Commerce,Currency, Tax
Describe borrowing. The power of Congress that gives them the ability to borrow money on the credit of the United States.
Is there a limit on the amount of money Congress can borrow? No
What is public debt? All the money borrowed by the government over the years and is not repaid.
Describe Tax. A charge levied by the government on persons or property to raise money to meet public needs.
Is Congress' power to tax unlimited? No
What is direct tax? The form of tax that must be paid directly to the government .
What is indirect tax? The form of tax that is paid by one person but then passed to another.
What is commerce? The power given to Congress that allows them to regulate interstate and foreign trade.
What is currency? The power given to Congress that allows them to coin moneyand regulate its value.
What are five expressed powers? War powers,post office/roads, naturalization,copyright,and patent
Describe war powers. Congress has the power to declare war,calll forth the militia, and call for a military advance
Does Congress have the power to establish post offices and roads? Yes
What is naturalization? Allows for the people to make rules on the process by which citizensof one country become citizens of another
What is copyright? The exclusive right of an author to reproduce,publish, and sell his or her creative work
What is patent? The right granted to a citizen that gives them the sole right to manufacture,use or sell any new item
What are five non-legislative powers? Impeachment,amending,executive,appointment, investigatory
What does impeachment do? Gives the house sole power to impeach and the Senate sole power to sit as the court on impeachment cases
What is amending? Gives Congress the power to propose an amendment to the Constitution by a 2/3rds majority vote in each house
What is investigatory? Gives Congress the power to investigate any matter that falls within the scope of the legislaive power
What is an example of appointment? Checks and Balances
What is legal tender? Any kind of money that a creditor must by law accept payment of debts
