QuestionAnswer
What are delegated powers? powers the constitution grants or delegates to the national government
what are express powers? powers directly stated in the constitution
What are implied powers? powers that the government requires to carry out the express constitutional powers
What are the elastic clause? gives congress the right to make all laws "necessary & proper" to carry out the powers expressed in the other clauses of artice 1
what are inherent powers? powers that the national government may excercise simply because it is a government
What are reserved powers? powers that belong strictly to the states
What are the supremacy clause? a statement in article IV of the constituion stateting that laws passed by congress and treaties of the united states "shall be the supreme law of the land"
what are concurrent powers? powers that both the national government and the states have
what are the enabling act? the first step in the states admissions powers procedure which enable the people of a territory to prepare a constitution
