Direct-variation function Is a function with a formula of the form y=kx^n, with k not equal to 0 and n>0.
Inverse-variation function Is a function with a formula of the form y=k/x^n, with k not equal to 0 and n>0.
Fundamental theorm of varation Two parts: A)if y varies as x^n and x is multipuled by c then y is multipuled by c^n. B)if y varies inversely as x^n, and x is multiplied by a nonzero constant c, then y is divided by c^n.
Slope The steepness of a line is measured by slope. EQ)slope=change in vertical distance/change in horizontal distance or in more simple terms rise /run.
Branches Each hyperbola has 2 seperate parts. EQ) no exact equation. EX)when k>0 the branches lie in the second and fourth quadrants. Meaning the domain and range are the set of all nonzero real numbers.
Combined variation When direct and inverse variations occur together. EQ)no exact equation EX) y=kx/z = y varies directly as x and inversely as z.
mathematical model Is a description of that situation using the language and concepts of mathematics.
