What is revolution? traveling around the sun in an orbit which is every 365 1/4 days
What does revolution change and cause? the hours of daylight and moon phases
What are tides? cyclic bulge of water that is pulled by gravity from the sun and moon
what are eclipses? when an object in space comes into the shadow cast by another object
what is a solar eclipse? the shadow of the moon(new moon)is cast over the sun, blocking it from view
what is a lunar eclipse? the shadow of the earth is cast over the moon (full moon) blocking it from view
what is a light year? how we measure light in a year at 186000mi/sec
what is a galaxy? object in space containing gases, planets, stars, asteroids, comets, in a spiral shape
what is a solar system? objects that revolve in orbits around central objects
what is eccentricity? shape of orbit small-perfect circle high- oval shape or line
what is a star? ball of gas that give energy to planets
what are planets outside or solar system so hard to see? hidden in glare of the star they orbit and they are so incredibly far away
how did the earth form? from gas and big chunks of rock being pulled together by a gravitational pull into a circular shape
what is the current theory on how life came to earth? god sent a huge ball to earth containing all the essentials to a human being, when it hit the earth humans were formed
how was pluto found? by clyde tombaugh when he was taking pictures of the sky and noticed pluto moving in its orbit
why did pluto take so long to find? distance and size
when it is spring how many hours does the equator get, buffalo, and north pole? e- 12 b-12 np-12
when it is summer how many hours does the equator get, buffalo, and north pole? e-12 b-15 np-24
when it is autumn how many hours does the equator get, buffalo, and north pole? e-12 b-12 np- 12
when it is winter how many hours does the equator get, buffalo, and north pole? e-12 b-9 np-0!
why does buffalo have more daylight in one season and less in another? we are tilted toward the sun
why are the north and south pole so different in daylight hours? opposite side of the axis
how long does it take for the moon to take its whole orbit around the earth one month
what is gravitational pull controlled by? mass and distance
what is a universe? space
what is latitude? lines that run east and west
what is longitude? lines that run north and south
what is the prime meridian? 0* line that connects the n+s poles of longitude
what is Polaris? north star that shows the latitude of the viewer
what is a time zone the way time i split up bu longitude
what is the asteroid belt? a bunch of rocks in between mars and Jupiter contains small rocky objects
what is a dwarf planet? no longer a main planet because too small and orbits but cant carry debris in its gravitational pull
what is a comet? travels in an elliptical orbit and ball of ice that orbits a star
what was the only planet human has stepped on? earth
what is an orbit? a circular orbit motion around an object or the path an object takes
what is a solstice changing of seasons dates beginning summer/ winter when the sun is farthest away
what are the phases if the moon? parts shaded or shown when the sunlight hits the moon in different positions due to the revolution of the moon
why is earth able to sustain life? good distance from the sun and has water
what is the order when there is a new moon s m=e we see no moon
what is the order when there is a full moon s e=m we see moon
why could we have actually seen a past exploding star- supernova? light travels at great distances because they are so far away it takes time to let our eyes see because it was light traveling from light years away
