pioneer species organisms that begin an area’s soil-building process; first organisms in an area
population A particular section, group, or type of people or animals living in an area or country
primary succession succession that begins in an area without soil
salinity the measurement of the amount of salt dissolved in water
savanna grassland biome of Africa
secondary succession succession that begins in an area with soil
succession normal, gradual changes that occur in the types of species that live in an area
sustainability the capacity to endure
taiga world’s largest biome; long, cold winters, evergreen trees
temperate deciduous forest biome with four discernable distinct seasons
temperate rain forest 200cm-400cm rain; forests with trees and needle like leaves
tropical rain forest most biologically diverse biome; receives up to 600 cm of rain
tundra cold, dry, treeless biome with permanently frozen soil
wetland biome that is wet most or all of the year
