Properties

PropertiesCharacteristics
Electrical conductivity Materials that conduct electricity
Electrical insulation Material that do not conduct electricity
Thermal conductivity Materials that conduct heat
Thermal insulators Materials that do not conduct heat
Elasticity Allows the material to return to its original form after a force that has changed its shape is removed
Plasticity Allows it to be permanently deformed
Malleability allows a material to be spread into sheets or films. Materials with this property are malleable
Ductility allows a material to be formed into filaments, or wires. Materials with this property are ductile
Density the relationship between the mass of an object and its volume
Porosity materials that can absorb or release liquids or gases
Permeability Materials that allow water or other liquids to filter through them
Impermeability Materials that DO NOT allow water or other liquids to filter through them
Recyclable materials Materials that can be reused
Toxic materials Materials that are harmful to the environment and living things
Biodegradable materials Materials that decompose naturally and do not cause damage to the environment
Toughness The resistance/difficulty to break or cut a material
Brittleness It is the opposite to toughness, when material breaks easily
Hardness It is not easily scrached by another material.
Mechanical strength The resistance that a material presents when external forces act upon it.
