Word Processing Vocabulary #1

Word Processing termsWord Processing Definitions
Menu Bar a horizontal strip fixed at the top of each window containing a list of options; e.g. File, Edit,View, Insert, Format, Font, Tools
Zoom Control to make a window smaller or larger
Margin the strips of white space around the edge of the paper. Use the format, document options to change.
Toolbar a sieres of icons typically displayed as a horizontal row. You can add or delete toolbars from the view option
Save As the File Menu option that moves a file from a temporary area to a more permanent storage area
Text Alignment used to describe the arrangment of text or graphics relative to a margin. Left, Right, Centter, and Justified are types of alignment.
Highlight dragging over a word or paragraph to make it stand out or to select it.
Font is a set of characters (letter, Number, Symbols) of the same design; e.g. Arial, Times, etc...
Font Size the height of letters, numbers or symbols; one point is 1/72 of an inch
Return Key moves the cursor down to the beginning of the next line.
Tab Key moves the cursor five spaces to the right
Delete Key moves the cursor one space to the left, and erases that character.
input what ever goes into a computer; e.g. text, pictures, etc...
Word Wrap is when a line of text automatically "wraps" to the next line down on the page.
