State Assessment Math Terms

Commutative Property of Addition a + b + c = b + a + c
Commutative Property of Multiplication abc = bac
Associative Property of Addition (a + b) + c = a + (b + c)
Associative Property of Multiplication (ab)c = a(bc)
Distributive Property 4(x + 2) = 4x + 8 and (3 – x)2 = 6 – 2x
Substitution Property if x = 10 then 5x = 50
Identity Property of Addition 5 + 0 = 5
Identity Property of Multiplication 7(1) = 7
Inverse Property of Addition 6 + (-6) = 0
Inverse Property of Multiplication 3(1/3) = 1
Symmetric Property if a = b then b = a
Addition and Multiplication Property of Equality if a = b then a + 5 = b + 5
Addition and Multiplication Property of Inequality if a < b then 3a < 3b
Zero Product Property If ab = 0 then a = 0 or b = 0 and (x-5)(x+2)=0 then x = 5 or x = -2
