Question | Answer |
---|---|
What are all living things made up of? | Cells. |
Cells consist of smaller pieces called: | Organelles. |
What is the cell membrane? | It acts as a boundary layer around the cytoplasm thus separating cells from their outside environments. |
What are there many types of? | Cells. |
Do cells generally share a similar structure? | Yes. |
What is a Cytoplasm? | Cytoplasm is a suspension of fluid that houses the other organelles. |
What is a cell wall? | A secretion of the cell membrane. |
What is a vacuole? | Stores water and undigested food in a fluid sack. |
Lysosomes: | Contain enzymes specialized to break down ingested materials, secretions, and wastes. |
The wastes may then be processed out of the cell by the: | Golgi Apparatus. |
What is the nucleus? | It's like the brain of the cell. |
What is the chromatin? | It's composed of long, thin strands of DNA. |
What does the DNA of the chromatin contain? | It contains "instructions" that control the cell metabolism and heredity. |
What are Ribosomes? | RNA and protein complexes that are found in all cells. |
The Mitochondria: | Acts like a stomach for the cell. |
Chloroplasts are: | The food producers in a plant cell. |
What is the endoplasmic reticulum? | It transports chemicals between and within cells. |
Do plant cells and animal cells contain the same structure? | No. |
What is the lowest level of organization? | The cell. |
What is the second level of organization? | Tissue. |
Does each type of tissue have a specialized function within an organisms body? | Yes. |
An organ is a: | Group of tissues that work together to perform a certain function. |
What is the third level of organization? | The organs. |
What is the fourth level of organization? | Organ Systems. |
How does the order of organization go? | Cells-tissues-organs-organ systems. |
