Patronage Giving jobs or special favors to loyal party members
Precinct Voting district
Exit Poll A survey taken at polling places of how people voted
Recall Election Election to strip someone of his or her political office
Initiative Procedure by which citizens can propose laws through the use of a petition
Electors The people who are eligible to vote in an election
Electoral College A group of people who elect the President and the Vice President
Patriotism Civic virtue of loyalty to one's country
Public Service Serving in the gov't of serving the general welfare of society
Peace Corps Federal program that sends people overseas to help other nations
AmeriCorps Largely volunteer Federal program to help with the domestic problems
Job Corps Federal program that offers job training
Senior Corps Federal program using senior citizens to meet community needs
Informed Electorate an informed voter
Secret Services a group of people who guard the president and his family to keep them safe
National Guard Reserves Serving part-time in the National Guard, but subject to being called for long-term duty
Chamber of Commerce Organization that promotes business interests throughout the country
Veto The Executive branch's rejection of a bill that the legislature has already passed
Line Item Veto Veto of a particular section of a bill while retaining others
