Temperature The measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in an object.
How are temperature and an average related? Temperature is the average kinetic energy in the particles of an object so in both you are averaging something.
The temperature of a substance is not determined by ....... How much of a substance that you have.
A thermometor operates of the principal of thermal........ expansion.
thermal expansion occurs when........ there is an increase in the volume of a substance due tho the increase in temperature.
Why do bridges have joints in them? Because as the road gets hotter the road expands and if the joints were not there it would cause the road to buckle under the pressure.
Heat The transfer of energy between objects that are at different temperatures.
Thermal Energy The total energy of the particles that make up a substance.
Thermal Equilibrium when two objects with different temperatures touch and the hotter substance tranfers energy to the cooler substance until they reach the same temperature.When an objects are at thermal equilibrium there is no net change in either's thermal energy.
Conduction The transfer of thermal energy from direct contact of one objest to another.
conductors Objects theat conduct thermal energy well.
Insulators Substances that dont conduct thermal energy well.
Convection the transfer of thermal energy by the movement of liquid.
Radiation The transfer of energy through matter or space as electromagnetic waves such as visible light and infrared waves.
