NHTC Blood Pressure Classifications

normal blood pressure less than 120/80 mmHg
prehypertension 120-139/80-89 mmHg
stage 1 hypertension sustained elevation at 140-159 systolic or 90-99 diastolic
state 2 hypertension sustained elevation greater than or equal to 160 systolic, or greater than or equal to 100 diastolic
hypertension w/no known cause most common - called primary or essential hypertension
hypertension w/identified cause usually due to renal disorder, it is called secondary hypertension
