Cell-Mediated Immune Responses

QuestionAnswer
ANTIGEN BOUND TO MHC MOLECULES MHC MOLECULES
Where would you find MHC Class I molecules? They're on all cells, EXCEPT RBC
How do Class I molecules present antigen? When? They present antigen from INSIDE the cell in an INFECTION
Where would you find MHC Class II antigens? From where do they come? On some leukocytes; come from OUTSIDE a cell
What are the MHC Class II antigens? B-cells, macrophages, and dendridic cells
ORIGIN OF T-CELLS T-CELLS COME ABOUT
Where do t-cells get created? Bone marrow
Where are they processed? In the Thymus
What are the two steps inovolved with thymus processing? Clonal expansion of cells reacting with MHC molecules and elimination of cells recognizing self
Why can't we make T-cells when we're older? Because the thymus decreases in size, so no more new t-cells
Where do b and T cells go after they've matured in the bone marrow and thymus, respectively? Go to spleen and lymph nodes
RESPONSE TO ANTIGEN RESPONSE TO ANTIGEN
HELPER T-CELLS HELPER T-CELLS
What is the T cell receptor for antigen? MHC
What kind of a marker do helper t-cells have? A protein CD4 marker
What is the purpose of the maker? The marker is what sticks to the MHC Class II molecules
What does the first do? Interacts with MACROPHAGES to activate them
What does the second do? Interacts with B-CELLS to activate antibody response and, thus, formation of B-memory cells
CYTOTOXIC T-CELLS KILLER T-CELLS
What kind of TCR do they need to be presented with? MHC Class I
What kind of a marker do cytotoxic t-cells have? A CD8 Protein
EVENTS IN RESPONSE TO ANTIGEN I SAW AN ANTIGEN, NOW WHAT?
What are the seven steps involved in this response? 1. Antigen presenting cells interact with antigen 2. APC go to lymph nodes 3. APC present antigen 4. Activate T-cell clones 5. Clonal explansion of T-cells 6. Immune T-cells return to circulation 7. Helper T-cells or C-T cells do stuff
CLONAL EXPANSION OF T-CELLS Various responses described
What are Th1 cells? What are they fighting./what do they do? Macrophage killing cells that help out CT cells
Whare are TH2 cells? What are they fighting? Activate antibody response to rid of viruses
HELPER T-CELL ACTIVATION HELPTER T-CELL ACTIVATION
What do helper t-cells activate? macrophages and B-cells
Can you have unactivated macrophages? Yeah, but they're not as good
Which type of T-cell function is most important to get a type I allergic response? TH2 response
MECHANISM OF CELL ACTIVATION CELL ACTIVATION STEPS
What does IL-1 activate? lymphocytes
What does IL-2 activate? ANd what does the thing it activates requre activation by? Role with T-cells
What does IL-8 activate? What does the thing it activates have a role with? Neutrophils have a role in Chemotaxis
What does IL-12 activate? Helpter T-cells
What are some examples of those cells? Macrophages, CD8 T-cells, and NK cells
What is the function of TH2 cells? Stimulates production of eosinophils, IgM, and IgE
Function of CT Cells? Destroys target cells on contact
Function of Regulatory T cells? Regulates immune response and helps maintain tolerance
Function of activated macrophages? Better phagocytic activity to attack cancer cells
SUMMARY FUNCTIONS SUMMARY FUNCTIONS
IL-2 Role with T-cells
IL-8 Chemotaxis for immune system cells and phagocytes to inflammation site
What induces a TH2? Th1> TH2--B-cells; TH1-Macrophages
T independent antigens have what characteristics? They have repeating antigens that activate B-cells to make Ab
