2nd Grade Forecasting & Predicting Weather Vocabulary

forecast A prediction of future weather patterns.
rain gauge A tool used to collect and measure rainfall.
thermometer A tool used for measuring temperature.
anemometer An instrument that measures wind speed.
meteorologist A scientist who studies changes in the atmosphere.
Beaufort wind scale Document which indicates wind speeds based on the wind's observable effects.
barometer An instrument that measures the pressure of the atmosphere.
humidity How much water vapor, or moisture, is in the air.
Fahrenheit Most commonly used measurement of the air temperature (in USA). 32 degrees is freezing & 212 degrees is boiling
Celsius Measurement of the air temperature (used by scientist & many other countries). 0 degrees is freezing & 100 degrees is boiling
