QuestionAnswer
Atoms all things around us are made of atoms
PARTS OF AN ATOM Nucleus (protons and neutrons)
Protons positive charge
Neutrons no charge
Charges are attracted to opposites (- to + and vice versa)
Electrons particles outside of the nucleus of the atom.
Electrons are negatively charged
Electrons Smaller than a proton or neutron
Electrons orbit the nucleus
Electrons are the same number of protons
Electrons, neutrons, and protons are subatomic particles
The number of protons in an atom determine what it is
Each of an elements atoms has the same number of protons
An atom is the smallest unit of and element that has properties of that element
Elements have different properties because of the different number of subatomic particles
Atoms can bond by exchanging electrons
A molecule is a group of two or more atoms held together by very strong chemical bonds
Compounds pure substances that are made up of two or more different elements that are chemically joined
Periodic table of elements presents and organizes information about all the elements
Atomic mass and Atomic num. are in the element box
Atomic number is the larger number
The symbol is the big letters in the box
Atomic mass the smaller numbers
Element name the name at the bottom of the box
A horizontal row on the periodic table is called a period
A vertical row on the periodic table is called families and groups
Chemical properties determines how a substance will react with other substances
Reactivity how likely an element is to react with a different element
An ion an atom that has either a positive or negative charge
Inert a element that is unable to react

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
