What is the theory of the continental drift? The theory of continental drift states that the continents were once one big continent, and have slowly moved across Earth's surface since.
Who is Alfred Wegner? Alfred Wegner is a German scientist who proposed the theory of the continental drift hypothesis.
What is Wegner's line of evidence? 3, ex. of each Wegner's line of evidence is in landforms, such as mountains, fossils such as the glossopteris fern, and climate: where temperature has left climatic evidence.
What is pangaea? Pangaea was a supercontinent that existed 300 MYA that means all lands in greek.
What is 'glossopteris'? glossopteris is a fern whose fossils helped prove the theory of continental drift
why was wegner rejected? because she couldn't find the explanation for "how/why" the continents moved. continued till 1960's
what is sea floor spreading? Sea floor spreading is when a trench releases magma and creates new rock on the ocean floor, pushing older rock further out
who is harry hess? harry hess is an american geologist that suggested the idea of sea floor spreading and how ocean floors move like conveyor belts
what is a line of evidence for sea floor spreading? age of rock, magnetic stripes, and molten material
what is pillow lava? pillow lava is bulbous lava that forms when lava comes out at slow rates
what is the mid ocean ridge? the mid ocean ridge is an undersea mountain chain
what is subduction? a process by which ocean floor sinks beneath a deep ocean trench and back into the mantle
trenches? trenches are canyons underwater that sink into the mantle
