Color Terms

How do you perceive white? | White happens when the light waves reflecting off the surface of an object are weak. |
How do you perceive black? | Black happens when the light waves reflecting off the surface of an object are strong. |
What is hue? | A color. |
What are the primary colors? | Red, Yellow, Blue |
What are the secondary colors? | Violet, Orange, Green |
What are the tertiary colors? | Colors that are between primary and secondary colors. Example: Blue-violet, red-orange, yellow-green. |
What is a saturated color? | Pure color without any other colors (including white and black) mixed in. |
What three groups make up the color wheel? | Primary, Secondary, Tertiary. |
What is a tint? | A color with white added. |
What is a shade? | A color with black added. |
What are three colors that are considered to be warm colors? | Yellow, Orange, Red. |
What are three colors that are considered to be cool colors? | Violet, Blue, Green. |
What are the five neutral colors? | Black, Brown, Tan, Grey and White |
What are the six types of color harmonies? | Monochromatic, Analogous, Triad, Split Compliment, Complementary, Nuetral. |
What is a monochromatic color harmony? | Tints and shades of one color. |
What is an analogous color harmony? | Three colors next to each other on the color wheel. |
What is a complementary color harmony? | Two colors opposite each other on the color wheel. |
What is a triadic color harmony? | Three colors that are equal distances from each other on the color wheel. |
What is a split complementary scheme? | A color and the two colors on either side of it's compliment on the color wheel. |
What is a neutral color scheme? | A color scheme using only neutral colors. |
