What is indirect characterization? writer reveals info though characters thoughts, words, actions, and how other characters react to him/her
What is direct characterization? Writer makes a direct statement about the character's peronilty or physical appearnce.
What is a foil character? a character who contrasts with another character helps show that charaters traits.
What is a flat character? a character that is added to a story for the pourpose of the plot or as a foil only has one or two personilty traits.
What is a round character? A character that is fully devloped with many traits can be good or bad we know this character very well.
What is a static character? a character that doesn't change regardless of the changes in his/her envirnment or events.
What is a dynamic character? A character that changes dramatically either through the groth process or response to learning from events or his/her envirnment
What is characterization? How the author develops a character in a story.
At the beginning of the story, rainsford's attitude toward hunted animals could be best described as unfeeling
What event brings about a change in the relationship between the grandmother and the boy? When the little boy asks for candy in spanish and he learns she can speak english.
What is the format for essays? 1.Hook/lead 2.characters 3.author/story 4.plot summary 5.thesis
What does incongruously mean? in a way that does not fit
What does Periphery mean? the surrounding aera, outskirts
What does finality mean? THe state of being settled
What does incomprenensible mean? not understandable
What does coveted mean? desired strongly, wished for longingly
What does depreciated mean? to lessen the price or value of
What does instigate mean? to stir up or cause to happen
What does imputation mean? an accusation
What does parsimony mean? stinginess, extreame cheapness
What does prudence mean? cautious, good judgement
What is an exposition? Intro gives setting, tone, characters, foreshadowing, other facts
What is foreshadowing? hints or clues
What is the inciting force? Something that triggers the conflict
What are the types of conflict? problems person vs. self, person vs. person, person vs. nature, person vs. scoity, person vs. machine, person vs. fate.
What is the rising action? Builds from the conflict, begins with the inciting force ends with the climax
What is the crisis? The conflict reaches turning point, crisis occurs before or at the sametime as the climax
What is the Climax? high point of story outcome of conflict predicted
What is the falling action? events after climax
What is the denouement? the ending where the conflict is resolved
