muscles and tendons

QuestionAnswer
biceps located on the anterior surface of the humerus; movements include bending and extending the arms
buccinator cheek muscle; movements include sucking, whistling, blowing, and smiling
deltoid covers the shoulder joint; common site for medication injections
external oblique muscles of the sides of the upper body; movements include turning or twisting the upper body
gastrocnemius calf muscle; movements include pointing the toes and standing on tiptoe
gluteus maximus buttock muscle; moves the thigh (you sit on your gluteus maximus)
hamstring muscles located on the posterior part of the thigh; a group of three individual muscles; movements invlude flexing or bending the thigh, kneeling
masseter located at the angle of the jaw; movements include biting and chewing, mastication
pectoralis major chest muscle; large, fan-shaped muscle that crosses the upper part of the chest; moves the arms
quadriceps femoris anterior thigh muscle; a group of four individual muscles; movements include extending the thigh, kicking
rectus abdominis abdominal muscles; commonly called "abs"; movements include raising the upper body
sternomastoid, sternocleidomastoid extends from the sternum up the side of the neck to the mastoid process; moves the head and neck
temporal located above and near the ear; movements include biting and chewing
tibialis anterior located on the front lower part of the leg; movements include pulling the foot toward the leg and walking on the heels of the foot
trapezius triangular-shaped muscle that extends across the back of the shoulder, back of the neck, and connects to the clavicle and scapula; moves the shoulders
triceps located on the posterior surface of the humerus; movements include bending and extending the arms
Achilles tendon tendon that attaches the gastrocnemius muscle to the calcaneous
