Boer War

Social Studies 10, Unit #8

What did the Boer war do to Canada? It divided the country along French-English lines.
What was Britain trying to do? Expand it's control in South Africa (North of the Cape Colony).
Who were the Boers? Dutch settlers.
What did they Boers do? Resist the Brtish.
What seems like the real reason for the war? Gold and diamonds.
Did English Canadians support it? Yes, they sent troops.
Who didn't support it? French-Canadians
How did Laurier compromise? He sent Canadian volunteers to fight in the British army.
Who criticised Canada's position with the war? Henri Bourassa, he said they should act seperately from Britian.
