Capter 4 motion

Chapter 4 Linear Motion vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
relative (4.1) Regarded in relation to something else. Depends on point of view, or frome of reference. Sometimes referred to as "with respect to." or An object is moving if its position relative to a fixed point is changing.
Speed (4.2) How fast something is moving; the path distance movied per time. The magnitude of velocity vector.
instantaneous speed (4.2) Speed at any instant of time.
Average speed (4.2) Path distance divided by time interval.
Velocity (4.3) Speed together with the direction of motion. Or speed is a descripition of how fast an odject moves ; velocity is how fast and in what direction it moves.
Acceleration (4.4) The rate at which velocity is changing. the change may be in magnitude, direction, or both.
Free Fall (4.5) Motion under the influence of the gravitational force only.
Elapsed time (4.5) the time that has passed sincr the beginning of an event.
