Are viruses considered one of the six kingdoms? No...they are not living so they aren't classified with living organisms
How do viruses mulitply? They inject their genetic material into a host cell. The genetic material takes over the cell and tells it only to make virus parts. Once the new viruses are made, the cell explodes and lets the viruses out to invade more cells.
Which viruses make you sick right away? active virus
Which type of virus doesn't multiply right away and therefore you don't know that you are sick right away? hidden virus
What organism do viruses attack? Organisms from all six kingdoms
What 2 structures do all viruses have? a protein coat and genetic material
What two things does the protein coat do for the virus? It protects the genetic material and it allows the virus to attach to specific cells
Which is smaller...viruses or bacteria? viruses
How can viruses be spread? by touching, sexual contact, being bit, blood and other bodily fluids
How are virus infections treated? By getting lots of rest and drinking lots of fluids
What medicine will kill a viral infection? None - you have to let your immune system fight the virus
Are viruses considered living or non-living? non-living
Are viruses named using binomial nomenclature? No - only living organisms are named using that system
How do viruses get their names? named after the disease it causes, the doctor who discovered it, the location it was found, the organism it infects
Are viruses considered cells? No...they are not living
Do viruses use energy to grow? No...they are not living
Can viruses make or take in food? No...they are not living
Do viruses produce waste? No...they are not living
What is the name of the virus that infects bacteria? bacteriophage
