Regions, Areas, Planes, Cavities, Organ Systems etc

QUESTIONANSWER
MEDIAL Plane ? MIDDLE. Structure is nearer the Midline. The Heart is MEDIAL to the Humerus.
LATERAL Plane ? SIDE. Structure is Further from the Midline or at the Side of the Body. The Humerus is LATERAL to the Heart.
PROXIMAL ? NEARER MIDDLE. Nearer to a Point of Attachment of a Limb, or Origin of a Body Part. The Femur is PROXIMAL to the Fibula.
DISTAL ? FURTHER FROM THE MIDDLE. Further from a Point of Attachment of a Limb, or Origin of Body Part. The Fibula is DISTAL to the Femur.
ANTERIOR or VENTRAL ? FRONT. Part of the body being described is Nearer the Front of the Body. The Sternum is ANTERIOR to the Vertabrae.
POSTERIOR or DORSAL ? BACK. Part of the Body being described is Nearer the Back of the Body. The Vertebrae are POSTERIOR to the Sternum.
SUPERIOR ? UPPER. Structure Nearer the Head. The Skull is SUPERIOR to the Scapulae.
INFERIOR ? LOWER. Structure Further from the Head. The Scapulae are INFERIOR to the Skull.

PARIETAL - Tissue ? A MEMBRANE that Covers an Internal Body Wall.
VISCERRAL - Tissue ? A MEMBRANE that Covers an Organ.
SAGITTAL - Plane ? Plane that runs down through the body, dividing the body into Left & Right portions.
MIDSAGITTAL - Plane ? Runs through the MEDIAN Plane & Divides along the line of Symmetry.
PARASAGITTAL - Plane ? Is Parallel to Midline but does not divide into equal Left & Right portions.
FRONTAL or CORONAL - Plane ? Frontal, Runs Perpendicular to the Sagittal plane & Divides the body into Anterior & Posterior (front & back) portions.
TRANSVERSE - Plane ? HORIZONTAL plane that divide the body into Upper & Lower portions, also called Cross-Section.
