Backup is a copy of one or more files created as an alternate in case the original data is lost or becomes unusable.
Beta Before a commercial software program is released to the public, it usually goes through a "beta" phase. During this stage, the software is tested for bugs, crashes, errors, inconsistencies, and any other problems.
Blog Short for "Web Log," this term refers to a list of journal entries posted on a Web page.
Browser You are probably using a browser to read this right now. A Web browser, often just called a "browser," is the program people use to access the World Wide Web.
Byte A byte is a set of 8 bits that represent a single character in the computer's memory. While bits are often used to measure data transfer speeds, bytes are used to measure file sizes, hard disk space, and computer memory.
Bit The computer term "bit" comes from the phrase "Binary DigIT,". A bit is a single digit number in base-2 (a zero or a one) and is the smallest unit of computer data. A full page of text is composed of about 16,000 bits.
RAM Stands for "Random Access Memory,".Every time you open a program, it gets loaded from the hard drive into the RAM. This is because reading data from the RAM is much faster than reading data from the hard drive.
Hard drive The hard drive is what stores all your data. It houses the hard disk, where all your files and folders are physically located. A typical hard drive is only slightly larger than your hand, yet can hold over 100 GB of data.
Flash drive USB Flash drives are typically no more than two to three inches in length and less than an inch in width. Their size and shape may resemble a thumb or a small pen. Flash drives are also very thin, Because of their small form factor, they are highly portable.
Megabyte A megabyte is 2 to the 20th power, or 1,048,576 bytes.
Kilobyte A kilobyte is 2 to the 10th power, or 1,024 bytes.
Gigabyte A gigabyte is 2 to the 30th power, or 1,073,741,824 bytes.
Terabyte A terabyte is 2 to the 40th power, or 1,099,511,627,776 bytes.
Processor This little chip is the heart of a computer. Also referred to as the "microprocessor," the processor does all the computations such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.
Megahertz MHz One megahertz (abbreviated: MHz) is equal to 1,000 kilohertz, or 1,000,000 hertz. It can also be described as one million cycles per second. Megahertz is used to measure wave frequencies, as well as the speed of microprocessors.
Gigahertz GHz One gigahertz is equal to 1,000 megahertz (MHz) or 1,000,000,000 Hz. It is commonly used to measure computer processing speeds.
Hertz Hertz (abbreviated: Hz) is the standard unit of measurement used for measuring frequency. Since frequency is measured in cycles per second, one hertz equals one cycle per second.
Clock Speed Clock speed is the rate at which a processor can complete a processing cycle. It is typically measured in megahertz or gigahertz.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
