Classifying Numbers

Natural Numbers 1,2,3,4... They are the "Counting Numbers" you were taught as a child. These numbers do not have fractional parts
Whole Numbers 0,1,2,3,4... They are the counting numbers and zero. These numbers do not have fractional parts.
Integers All whole numbers positive and negative. These numbers do not have fractional parts.
Rational Numbers All numbers that can be expressed as a ratio of two whole numbers. This set includes terminating decimals, repeating decimals, and mixed numbers in addition to integers.
Real Number The set of irrational and rational numbers.
Irrational Numbers Cannot be expressed as a fraction. Ex: √2 6.123456789... & pi. This set includes decimals that are non repeating and non terminating.
