Caribou Gold Rush

What made some people rich? Gold rushes in California.
Where was gold first found in the Caribou? The Thompson River.
What did many miners do in 1857-1858? Moved from California to Oregon/Washington to further North.
What happened one day in 1858? 450 miners arrived in San Francisco.
How many miners ended up working on the Fraser River? 10,000
What did Douglas fear? An American expansion.
How did the British react to the many Americans? They named BC a Crown Colony.
Who were sent for military and to build roads/towns? Second Royal Engineers under Richard Moody.
Why did Douglas build a road? So gold could be taxed since it would go through the Fraser River, not the US.
