Russian Revolution (Brooman vocabulary part I)

What were the Cossacks? Fierce mounted soldiers specialised in breaking mobs (armed with sabres).
What was the Okhrana? The secret police of the Tsar.
What was the Tsar family surname? The Romanovs.
What is a Tsar? The person who ruled the Russian empire.
Define autocrat. A monarch that does not share power.
What does tundra mean? Where nothing grows except moss and small shrubs.
What does taiga mean? Thick pine forests.
What railway line ran through most of Russia? Trans-Siberian Railway.
What is the capital of Russia? Moscow.
How many Russians lived in the empire? 55,650,000
Which corrupt group of people collected taxes and made sure the Tsar's decisions were carried out? The civil servants.
What was the Russian Orthodox Church? This was a Russian church that convinced people that to disobey the Tsar was to disobey God.
Who were the serfs? Theses were slaves of landlords with no rights, no freedom and no land of their own.
