What is the Supreme Law of the Land? The United States Constitution
The Legislative Branch has the power to do what? Make laws
The Executive Branch has the power to do what? Enforce laws
The Judicial Branch has the power to do what? Interpret laws
What's it called when the Government can do anything as long it's "necessary for running the United States" and expresses implied powers? Elastic Clause
What is a quorum? The minimal amount of people needed to conduct offical business.
What is the Social Contract Theory? People agree to give up certain freedoms for protection.
What is a Democracy? Power is rested upon the people
What is a Unitary Government? One strong central government runs a country. Like Parliament in Great Britain
What is the system of Checks and Balances? Power of the 3 Branches of Government is shared but also challenged.
What is the Separation of Powers? Provides a system of Checks and Balances but also makes sure that no one branch has more power.
What is Federalism? Power with a Strong, National Government is divided with also a smaller, weaker Government like a state.
What is a Republic? Where the people have supreme power over the government.
What is a rider? A bill added as an amendment to an already approved law.
What is a Veto? In which the head honcho (the President or the Governor) rejects a bill.
What is Judical Review? The Judicial Branch can say laws are legal or not?
What does it mean to "balance the ticket"? Putting someone up for VP to appeal more voters.
What is an Amendment? A change made to a law.
What does it mean that the U.S. has a Bicameral Government? We have two houses or legislative bodies of Government.
What is the President Pro Tempore? recognized officer of a legislative body who The person who presides over the Senate in the absence of the normal presiding officer.
What is Gerrymandering? Reapportioning districts to help or hurt a group of people.
What is Implied Power? Powers based on Expressed power.
What is Expressed Power? Powers that's specifically granted in the Constitution.
What is Exclusive Power? Power saved by the National Government only.
What is Reserved Power? Powers saved for the States.
What is an Appeal? Feeling that your rights were violated and going into a higher court to recieve a different verdict.
What is a Bill of Attainder? In which the Congress cannot pass a law to punish people specifically without a trial.
What is an Ex Post Facto Law? In which a certain act was legal at the time it was committed.
