What is the Separation of Powers? | Provides a system of Checks and Balances but also makes sure that no one branch has more power. |
What is Federalism? | Power with a Strong, National Government is divided with also a smaller, weaker Government like a state. |
What is a Republic? | Where the people have supreme power over the government. |
What is a rider? | A bill added as an amendment to an already approved law. |
What is a Veto? | In which the head honcho (the President or the Governor) rejects a bill. |
What is Judical Review? | The Judicial Branch can say laws are legal or not? |
What does it mean to "balance the ticket"? | Putting someone up for VP to appeal more voters. |
What is an Amendment? | A change made to a law. |
What does it mean that the U.S. has a Bicameral Government? | We have two houses or legislative bodies of Government. |
What is the President Pro Tempore? | recognized officer of a legislative body who The person who presides over the Senate in the absence of the normal presiding officer. |
What is Gerrymandering? | Reapportioning districts to help or hurt a group of people. |
What is Implied Power? | Powers based on Expressed power. |
What is Expressed Power? | Powers that's specifically granted in the Constitution. |
What is Exclusive Power? | Power saved by the National Government only. |
What is Reserved Power? | Powers saved for the States. |
What is an Appeal? | Feeling that your rights were violated and going into a higher court to recieve a different verdict. |
What is a Bill of Attainder? | In which the Congress cannot pass a law to punish people specifically without a trial. |
What is an Ex Post Facto Law? | In which a certain act was legal at the time it was committed. |
