B11 Motion test

QuestionAnswer
Acceleration includes both speed and direction.
An object at rest stays in rest because of inertia
Velocity includes speed and direction
The starting speed of an object (like a bike, car, bus, etc..) is initial speed.
Mass is the amount of matter in an object \
The formula to find momentum is mass x velocity
Your parents are driving their car. They check the speedometer. What are they checking? Instantaneous speed (the speed at that moment)
Motion is a change in position.
A person walks 2 km in 30 min. How many km per hour is she walking? 2 km/30 min is 1 km per 15 min, but the question asks for km/ hour. There are 4 groups of 15 min in one hour. 4 x 1 = 4 km/ hour. Or there are 2 groups of 30 min in 1 hour. 2 x 2 km = 4 km/ hour.
If I do not know how to do any of the math I will ask for help, look at practice problems, etc….
Displacement includes both distance traveled from the starting point and direction.
True or false: When a car accelerates it changes speed. Technically false because acceleration includes changing speed and direction.
To find momentum you need to know mass and velocity
The formula to find speed is distance / time
A car travels 30 km in 20 min. How many km per hour is the car traveling? 90 KM/ H (Remember to change the minutes to hours. There are 3 groups of 20 minutes in 1 hour. 3 x 30= 90)
A bullet travels 300 meters in .20 seconds. What was its speed? 1500 m/second (it is going 300 meters in less than a second so in a whole second it would go more than 300 meters)
I ran the 100 meter dash in 14.5 seconds. What was my speed? 6.897 m/second?
A bus changes speed from 50km per hour to 80 km per hour in 20 seconds. What is it’s acceleration? 80 – 50 = 30 km change, 30km/ 20 seconds = 1.5km/hour
Five km north is a measure of displacement
Seven km is a measure of distance.
Inertia depends on mass
True of False: To do well on this test I must be able to read a graph showing velocity and a diagram of two moving options true
Where can I find a sample of a graph on velocity in the book
True of False : I will check into Miss Murray’s blog later this weekend for more study information. Yes, I will got to grade8learningcenter.wordpress.com for more information.
