Journey through a cell

QuestionAnswer
It stops the content of the cell from escaping. It is permeable and controls the passage of materials into and out of the cell. Cell Membrane
It is a jelly- like substance that fills the cell.It is made up of mostly water (~70%) and the rest being molecules of salts, sugars, fats, amino acids and proteins. Cytoplasm
Lying towards the middle of the cell, it is the most important part of the cell.It is the control center. It sends out messages to other parts of the cell, controlling the production of molecules. Nucleus
They are the ‘power stations’ of the cells. They are the sites of cellular respiration and produce nearly all the energy the cell requires to function. Mitochondria
They are the protein factories where the manufacturing of protein takes place. Ribosomes
It is the transportation network for the cell.It is made up of a network of tubes that criss -cross the cell. Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
It sorts the proteins and packs them into membrane - wrapped structures Golgi Body
They carry proteins, nutrients and water into, out of, and around the inside of the cell. Vesicles
This structure helps support the plant. Vacuoles
These structures are responsible for breaking down waste materials, food particles and old and worn-out organelles within the cell. Lysosome
It is rigid and gives the cell a fixed shape. This structure is only found in plant cells. Cell Wall
These structures are usually disc-shaped. They contain the green pigment chlorophyll, and are involved in the process of photosynthesis. Chloroplasts

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
