Chapter 1- LYNCH

Bar Graph A type of graph in which the lengths of bars are used to represent and compare data in categories
Data Information, facts, or numbers that describe something.
Frequency Table A table used to group data values into intervals.
Histogram A graph that dispays data from a frequency table. It has one bar for each interval of the frequency.
Numerical Expression An expression consisting of numbers and operations (no equal sign).
Evaluate To find the value of an expression with one or more operations.
Order of Operations A set of rules for evaluating an expression involving more than one operation.
Variable A symbol, usually a letter, that is used to represent one or more numbers.
Variable Expression An expression that consists of numbers, variables, and operations.
Power A product formed from repeated multiplication by the same number or expression.
Exponent A number or expression that represents how many times a base is used as a factor ina repeated multiplication.
Base The number or expression that is used as a factor in a repeated multiplication.
Square Root The ____ of a number N is a number M, which when multiplied by iteself, equals N.
Equation A mathematical sentence formed by setting two expressions equal.
Solving an equation A numbe that makes the equation true when substituted for the variable in the equation.
Formula An Equation that relates two or more quantities such as perimeter with length and width.
Perimeter The distance around a figure.
Area The number of square units covered by a figure.
