if residuals are greater than ___ or ___ stop feeding until cause of residual determined 100 ml or 1/2 of previously administered vol for intermittent feedings
indications for tube placement? for gastric decompression, gastric lavage, or gastric feeding
what are assessments of GI system done before administering nutrition via nasogastric or gastrostomy tube observe and palpate for distention, tenderness, auscultate bowel sounds, determine time of last bowel movement, assess for presence of existing feeding tube
how do you confirm placement of tube in stomach before administering feeding? withdraw sample of stomach contents and check for low pH level, inject 10 mL air into tube while auscultating over epigastrium
