Squanto 1. Helped Pilgrims at Plymouth 2. Taught them farming, fishing, hunting 3. Arranged a peace treaty with local chief, Massasoit, which lasted for 50 years.
John Winthrop 1. Leader of the Puritans 2. Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony for over 30 years 3. Judge of the trial of Anne Hutchinson.
Charles I 1. King of England who raised taxes during hard economic times 2. Head of the Church of England and began punishing Puritans because they were dissenters 3. Gave Puritans a charter to start.
Thomas Hooker 1. Established the colony of Connecticut 2. Wrote the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut which established religious freedom for the first time in the New World 3. Allowed non-church.
Roger WIlliams 1. Kicked out of the Massachusetts Bay Colony 2. Bought land from native Americans to begin the colony of Rhode Island 3. Established true freedom of religion.
Anne Hutchinson 1. Spoke out against John Winthrop 2. Held prayer meetings in her home 3. Put on trial and kicked out of the Massachusetts Bay Colony 4. Fled to Rhode Island and helped Roger Williams establish.
