Genetic terms

This is an alternate form of a gene for a specific trait or gene product allele
The alleles for a specific trait are identical (RR, rr) homozygous
The alleles for a specific trait are different (Rr) heterozygous
This describes the allele that determines the phenotype of an individual organism. (the trait you see-D) dominant
The term that describes the allele not expressed when two forms of a gene are present (the trait that is hidden- d) recessive
These are the letters that express the genes. Dd genotype
The observable characteristics of an organism phenotype
An organism that has homozygous genes for a trait - RR rr purebred
An organism that has two different genes for a trait - Rr hybrid
