Calcium channel blockers inhibit calcium and cause blood vessels to open
NSAIDS Produces Anti-inflammatory, Anti-pyretic, and Analegsics
Adrenocortical Steroids The Adrenal cortex produces 3 major groups od hormones called steroids: mineralocorticosteroids, glucocorticoids, sex hormones
Beta Blockers slight decrease in Blood pressure
Antiarrhythmic Rhythemic impulses causes heart to beat; slow down (bradycardia), speed up (tachycardia)
Anti-infectives Either kill (bacteriocidal) or inhibit the growth of disease (bacteriostatic)
Aminogylcosides Antibiotics; they are nephrotoxic (Kidney) and ototoxic(ear) therefore kidney function must be monotired
Antifungals-systemic hepatotoxic (Liver) liver function and enzymes must be monitored
Erythromycins macrolide Antibiotics irritationg to stomach, should be taken with food. commonly prescribed to patients allergic to penecillin
Tetracyclines Antacids containing AL or MG, calcium foods or iron decrease absorption. Outdated can cause kidney damage. not taken last half pregnancy or children under 8. Cause photosensitivity and bad sunburns.
Sulfonamides Class of antibiotics known as sulfa drugs
Antituberculars For TB, sometimes as many as 5 drugs being taken at 1 time, also know as TB cocktail.Therapy ranges from 6 months to 2 years.
Anticholinergic drugs used to decrease secretions in GI system and block cholinergic stimulation in the heart. increases heart rate decreases bladder muscle spasms, decrease respiratory secretions
Neuromuscular Blocking Agents Paralysis of the diaphragm will cause apnea (A=without) (Pnea=breathing) paralyses heart muscle used for open heart surgery
Anticoagulants Never take if allergic to asprin. stop or slow clotting of Blood. Clotting causes stroke(brain) myocardial infarction(heart),and thrombophiebitis(vein)
Anticonvulsants Epilepsy, three agents valproic Acid, carbamazepine and lamotrigine. Mood stabilizers must never be withdrawn abruptly.
Antidiabetic Agents pancreas produces insulin, a lack of insulin is diabetes. 2 types of diabetics (Type 1) insulin dependant who do not produce enough insulin and require daily injections (Type 2 ) non-insulin dependant produce very little insulin.
Antiemetic Agents control nausea and vomiting (n&V)
Antihypertensive Blood pressure (Pressure during relaxation of the heart) greater than 140/90
Diuretics increase urinary excretion of sodium and water away from the heart
Ace Inhibitors Angiotensin converting enzyme, increase and lowers blood pressure
Antiparkinsonian Agents parkinson's disease progressive disorder of muscle movement
Bronchodilators Increase heart rate while dialiting airway. Relax smooth muscle used to treat asthma
Irritants irritate smooth muscle,increase muscular activity
Bulk-Forming moisten contents of stool
Anti Anxiety Agents Reduce Anxiety "Do not drink Alcohol"
Antipsychotics Schizophrenia, delusions, and hallucinations
