How do benzos work? List some affects of these drugs. they bind to GABA receptors , thus inhibiting the CNS and slow down mental and physical responses causing ataxia, vertigo, drowsiness, decreased memory and concentration, fatigue, and anterograde amnesia.

What is Buspar? used to treat anxiety disorders and works on serotonin instead of GABA. There are less sedative effects; no amnesia, dependence but takes up to 3 weeks to have effects but only works with 60% of the population
Name some other nonbenzodiazepines and why they are used. 1. Ambien 2. Sonata They are used as sedatives/ hypnotics because they work like the benzos but are very selective to a part of the receptor which means less adverse effects like non hangover
