product the answer to a multiplication problem
sum the answer in an addition problem
difference the answer in a subtraction problem
quotient the answer in a division problem
divisor the number used to divide another number
dividend the number to be divided in a division problem
factors the numbers that are multiplied to get a product
prime number a number whose only factors are itself and one
exponent a number telling how many times a number is to be used as a factor
estimate to get an approximate answer to a problem
decline to go down or diminish
X axis the orizontal number line on a coordinate grid
Y axis the vertical number line on a coordinate grid
ordered pairs a pair of numbers used to locate a point on a coordinate grid
short word form a number written with both numerals and words
expanded notation writing a number to show the value of each digit
standard form a number written with commas separating groups of three numbers
median the middle number in data that is arranged in order from least to greatest
mean the average; the sum of numbers in a set divided by the number of addends
mode the number found most frequently in a set of data
range the difference between the greatest number and the least number in a set of data
data facts, figures, or information that is gathered
tally a mark made to keep score or count
frequency how often a number appears in a set of data
pictograph a graph that used pictures or symbols to represent numbers
histogram a bar graph showing frequency of data
stem and leaf plot a display that shows data in order of place value
line graph a graph that uses lines to show change
double bar graph a graph that uses pairs of bars to compare information
frequency table data arranged on a table to show how often events occur
numerator the number above the fraction bar
denominator the number below the fraction bar
mixed number a number that includes a whole number and a fractional part
equivalent fraction fractions that name the same fractional number
improper fraction a fraction where the numerator is greater than or equal to the denominator; naming a number of one or more
variable a symbol used to represent numbers in an expression
expression a mathematical phrase made up of a combination of variables, numbers and/or numbers and operations
equation a mathematical sentence which states that 2 expressions are equal
