Vocabulary - number sense

equivalent fractions different fractions that name the same amount
ratio a comparison of two numbers (using division)
multiple the product of the number and any whole number
divisor the number that divides into the dividend
numerator the part of a fraction that tells the parts of the whole
composite number a number that has more than two factors
lowest form a fraction that cannot be divided by any common factors
fraction line a symbol used to separate whole numbers and numbers less than one
prime number a number that has exactly two factors, one and itself
greatest common factor used to reduce fractions - largest factor of two or more numbers
factor a number, when multiplied, gives a product; an integer(number) that divides evenly in a number
improper fraction a fraction greater than one
numerator the part of a fraction that tells parts of the whole
even number a number that ends with a 0,2,4,6, or 8
fraction line a symbol that means division; numerator divided by denominator
least common multiple smallest multiple of two numbers; used to find a least common denominator
quotient the number you get when you divide a dividend by a divisor

percent per 100; a ratio that compares a number to 100
decimal a number less than one that represents tenths, hundredths, thousandths,. . .
