Bile Acid Sequestrants | Mech. of Action - Decrease LDL plasma levels/serum cholesterol levels. Forms insoluble compound with bile salts and increasing bile loss through stool. Bile normally recycled through liver and bowel. Increases oxidation of cholesterol to form bile |
Nicotinic Acid | Mech. of Action - Increases HDL and decreases LDL. Similar in action as bile acid sequestrants |
Fibrin Acid Agents | Mech. of Action - Increase HDL and Lowers triglycerides |
Combination Drugs (STATINs + Nicotinic Acid) | Mech. of Action - Combines actions of HMG-COA reductase inhibitors and Nicotinic Acid to increase HDL levels and decrease LDL and triglyceride levels |
