dreaming consious awareness during sleep. primarily occurs during REM sleep
REM sleep rapid eye movement sleep. characterized by movement of eyes under lids often accompanies dreams
Non-REM sleep cycles 1-4
autonomic storm the autonomic nervous system and other parts of the perifial nervous system are very active suring dreams; blood flow to the brain increases. Irregular heartbeat and breath, muscles twitch
Circadian Rythym biological cycle taht last 24 hours regulates sleepiness and wakefulness and body temperature
Day Residue Dream content that is similar to events in a persons waking life
Manifest content the literal meaning of dreams.
Latent content The true meaning of dreams that is found in the symbols in their manifest content
Nightmares dreams that occur in REM sleep. content is frightening, sad, angry or uncomfortable
Night Terrors upsetting nocturnal experiences that occur most often in preschool aged children during non-rem sleep
Sleep Walking walking and carrying on complicated activities during the deepest part of non-rem sleep
Sleep Talking talking during any phase of the sleep cycle
