Globe a three dimensional model of the Earth
Map a flat 2-dimensional picture that shows the location of places and things
Oceans the four largest bodies of water
Continents the seven largest land areas on Earth
Hemisphere half of the globe when it is divided into either Northern/Southern or Western/Eastern
Compass Rose a drawing on a map that shows the cardinal directions to help people use the map
Cardinal Directions the main directions: North, South, East, West
Intermediate Directions the directions between the cardinal directions (northeast, northwest, southeast, and southwest)
Longitude Lines imaginary lines that travel north and south around the globe
Latitude Lines imaginary lines that travel east and west around the globe
Equator an imaginary line that circles the globe halfway between the Northern and Southern hemisphere
Prime Meridian an imaginary line that circles the globe halfway between the Eastern and Western hemispheres
Map Key a boxed in area on a map that explains the symbols used on a map (also called a legend)
Scale used to help show the distance between places on a map
Border a line on a map that shows where a state or nation ends
Product Map a map that uses symbols to show where products come from
Population Map a map that shows the number of people living in different areas
Resource a material that is found in nature and that is used by living things like water, air, minerals, and soil
