nasogastric disadvantages discomfort of the tube thru the nose and throat

rectal disadvantages some drugs not available in suppository form; some patients can't hold the suppository in; prolonged use can cause rectal irritation; if feces is present, absorption may be irregular or incomplete
inhalation therapy advantages rapid action, with local effects; potent drugs can be given in smaller amounts; convenience and comfort of patient
inhalation therapy disadvantages cooperation of the patient in proper breathing; systemic side effects; improper admin or too frequent admin leading to irritation of trachea or bronchi; patient can become too dependent; if unit is not cleaned properly it can be source of infection
