Color Terms

How do you percieve white? | when all the wavelengths are reflected back to your eyes |
How do you percieve black? | when no light is reflected back to your eye |
What is hue? | hue refers to the color itself |
What are the primary colors? | red, blue, yellow |
What are the secondary colors? | violet, green, orange |
What are the tertiary colors? | red-violet, blue-violet, blue-green, yellow-green, yellow-orange, red-orange |
What is a saturated color? | colors with no white or black in them |
What three groups make up the color wheel? | primary, secondary, tertiary |
What is a tint? | a saturated color that is mixed with a pure white color |
What is a shade? | saturated color that is mixed with a pure black color |
What are three colors that are considered to be warm colors? | red, orange, yellow |
What are three colors that are considered to be cool colors? | blue, green, violet |
What are the five neutral colors? | black, grey, white, tan, brown |
What are the six types of color harmonies? | monochromatic, analogous, complementary, triadic, split complementary, neutral |
What is a monochromatic color harmony? | use tirts and shades of only one color |
What is an analougus color harmony? | use 3 or more colors that are next to each other on the color wheel |
What is a complementary color harmony? | 2 colors that are directly across from one another on the color wheel |
What is a triadic color harmony? | 3 colors that are located within equal distance from one another |
What is a split complementary scheme? | use any color and 2 colors next to that color |
What is a neutral color scheme? | any combination of blacks, greys, whites, browns and tans |
